Pass Your ReB1 Exam — Study Anywhere With Australia's Audio-First BVLOS Theory Course

Beyond visual line-of-sight
ReB1

The complete RPAS BVLOS OCTA theory exam preparation system — audiobook, audio practice exams, and written practice exams — designed for remote pilots who study on the go.

For $197, you get around 8 hours of ReB1 theory audiobook, audio practice exams, and randomised written practice exams — everything you need to prepare for the BVLOS OCTA theory exam, in a format that fits your life.

Whether you're managing the full BVLOS approval process yourself or working with a consultant, the ReB1 exam is a step you'll need to complete. This course is here to help you pass it.
Studying for your BVLOS theory exam shouldn't mean choosing between running operations, building hours, and sitting at a desk with a textbook. This course delivers the full ReB1 theory syllabus as a professional audiobook — around 8 hours of content — so you can study while you commute, exercise, walk the dog, or do anything else that leaves your ears free.

But we didn't stop at audio. This is a complete exam preparation system — audiobook theory, guided audio practice exams, and randomised written practice exams — all in one place, all built around the RPAS BVLOS OCTA Aeronautical Knowledge Standards.

CASA allows candidates to self-study for the ReB1 — no formal training course is required. This course gives you everything you need to prepare independently, at a fraction of the cost of traditional instructor-led training. The ReB1 covers a wide range of aeronautical knowledge — from GNSS navigation and RPAS systems to meteorology, Class G airspace procedures, and deconfliction from crewed aircraft. With roughly one in six candidates failing, and pass rates trending downward each year, preparation matters. This course is designed to make sure you walk into that exam room ready.

The Reality of ReB1 Theory Study

You're running RPAS operations, building your business, maybe managing a team — and somehow you also need to master GNSS navigation, airspace deconfliction, instrument approach chart interpretation, aviation meteorology, and Class G airspace procedures well enough to pass a 90-minute CASA exam.

Here's something many people don't realise: there is no requirement to complete a formal training course before sitting the ReB1. Like other CASA theory exams, you can self-study and sit the exam when you're ready. CASA publishes the Aeronautical Knowledge Standards and Standards Guide so that candidates can prepare independently.

That said, the ReB1 covers a broad syllabus that goes well beyond your RePL training, drawing from concepts in crewed aviation that many remote pilots haven't encountered before. The pass rate has been trending downward — from 88% in 2023 to around 83% in 2025 — as more candidates sit the exam without adequate preparation. Having good study resources matters.

We built this course to give self-study candidates a comprehensive, structured, and affordable way to prepare — on their own schedule, in a format that fits around the demands of running an RPAS operation.

The Full BVLOS Pathway — Where the ReB1 Fits

Before you purchase this course, it's worth understanding where the ReB1 exam sits within the broader BVLOS approval process. Passing the ReB1 exam alone does not authorise you to fly BVLOS. It gives you a pass credit in the BVLOS OCTA examination — which is one requirement among several.

To conduct BVLOS operations in Australia, an organisation typically needs:
  • A Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC) — the operator-level certificate held by the organisation.
  • A BVLOS area approval from CASA — a location-specific approval based on a safety case, usually developed using the JARUS Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) methodology. This involves documenting your proposed operations, risk mitigations, procedures, emergency response plans, and hardware specifications. CASA assesses each application individually.
  • A remote pilot (or supervisor) who holds a pass in the ReB1 or the IREX — this is the theory exam component, and it's where this course helps.
  • BVLOS-specific procedures integrated into the ReOC holder's operations manual.
  • In some cases, a BVLOS flight test demonstrated to CASA.

Where This Course Fits

This course is a study resource — preparing for and passing the ReB1 theory exam. It covers the full BVLOS OCTA Aeronautical Knowledge Standards in audio format with practice exams, giving you everything you need to prepare for the exam itself.

We do not provide support for the CASA BVLOS application process, SORA assessments, safety case development, or operations manual updates. Those are separate steps that come after (or alongside) your ReB1 exam preparation.

What About the CASA Application?

The BVLOS application process — developing a safety case, completing the SORA assessment, writing procedures, and submitting to CASA — can be done independently by your organisation. CASA publishes guidance material, standard scenarios, and the SORA framework to support this. Some operators choose to work through the process themselves, particularly for straightforward operations in low-risk areas.

For more complex operations, or if you'd prefer professional support, there are RPAS consultancies and training providers in Australia that specialise in BVLOS approvals. They can assist with everything from SORA training and safety case development through to managed applications where they handle the process on your behalf. A quick search for "BVLOS approval Australia" will turn up several reputable providers.

The Bottom Line

If you're working towards BVLOS operations — whether you're managing the full approval process yourself or working with a consultant — the ReB1 theory exam is a step you'll need to complete. This course is designed to help you pass that exam affordably and efficiently, on your own terms.

Read the Exam Guide

Understand the exam format, how the PEXO system works, and what CASA expects. This is your roadmap.

Review the Standards

Download the BVLOS OCTA Aeronautical Knowledge Standards document so you know exactly what CASA can test you on.

Listen to the Audiobook

Work through the full 8 hours of theory at least once. Commute, gym, housework — wherever fits your routine.

Revisit and Reinforce

Go back to individual chapters on topics that need more attention. GNSS navigation, OCTA operations, and meteorology tend to need the most revision for candidates coming from a VLOS background.

Build Document Familiarity

Look at real aeronautical charts, instrument approach plates, ERSA entries, NOTAMs, and weather products. The more familiar these feel, the easier the exam will be.

Audio Practice Exams

Test your understanding with guided question-and-answer walkthroughs in audio format.

Written Practice Exams

Start with Learning Mode to build confidence, then move to Exam Simulation to test yourself under timed conditions. Aim for consistent scores above 80% before booking your real exam.
